Plant Name Registration

Naming of cultivated plants as a means to identify individual clones or groups is practiced universally for all genera.  Various plant societies, organizations and individuals have accepted the responsibility to serve as International Cultivar Registration Authorities (ICRA) for specific genera.  The Royal Horticultural Society serves as the ICRA for genus Rhododendron.

The North American Regional Registrar, appointed via consultation between the American Rhododendron Society and the RHS, receives and processes registration applications for rhododendrons and azaleas named by North American registrants, before submitting them to the International Registrar.  The current North American Registrar is Michael Martin Mills, who may be reached at .
